The Beauty & Magic of Illumination Lighting. . . It comforts us. It enhances our moods, and creates magic. Like the warmth of a flickering fire in the cool of evening, it has a fascination of its own.
To this day, I remember as a child asking Aunt Agnes to warm up the Niagara Falls lamp. As the heat intensified from the light bulb within, its innards magically began to turn slowly around and around. I was thrilled and enchanted with the shadowing and the moving waters it created.
I also remember standing for long periods of time in front of old woodland prints. I felt gleefully lost in them, imaging myself a part of them, collecting berries with the field mice and carrying lanterns with the fair folk into some cozy corner of the woods. I loved the richness and the mix of realism that made it all come alive: its innocence. I looked for the detail and the surprises.
I still look for the experiences that evoke those same feelings and visual pleasures when creating my lampshades.
In natural light, the strength of nature is defined through the simplicity of the design. When the shades are lit, the warmth and textural glow of illumination is laced with the delicate and delightful surprise of cut work.
From one who loves visual surprises,
Enjoy!
